Len Pennie on poyums

Known for her 'Scots Word of the Day' videos, which offered cheer during the pandemic, University of St Andrews alumna and mental health advocate Len Pennie continues to illuminate the beautiful Scots language for her thousands of social media followers. This February, Len joins us for a special publication day event to discuss her powerful debut poetry collection, poyums.

Whether she's writing letters to her younger self, advocating for women's rights or adapting fairy tales to process an abusive relationship, Len's voice is bold, unashamedly frank and unmistakably hers.

The poems in this collection, both funny and fiercely feminist, announce a formidable new talent. Moving deftly between English and Scots, poyums is as approachable as it is affecting.

Len Pennie is a poet who writes predominantly in the Scots language. She writes passionately about the promotion of minority languages, survivors of domestic abuse and the destigmatisation of mental illness.
