Notable for its innovative narrative technique and linguistic freshness, as well as its ground-breaking subject, Sam Selvon's 1956 novel, The Lonely Londoners, is an exuberant and optimistic tapestry of life in post-War London as experienced by new arrivals of the Windrush generation. The group will be reading it alongside Selvon's later story collection, Ways of Sunlight, which contrasts characteristically zestful tales of immigrant life in England with affectionately evoked episodes set in the author's native Trinidad.
