Booker Prize short-listed author, Lucy Ellmann, joins us for a special evening celebrating volume IV of The Evergreen: A New Season in the North.
With the publication of this anthology of new writing and visual art, the third phase of an Edinburgh Old Town tradition begun in 1724 is complete.
Inspired by the Evergreen anthologies of Allan Ramsay and Patrick Geddes, which stimulated a civic and cultural revival within Edinburgh and beyond, this new Evergreen from The Word Bank is centred on Edinburgh but international in outlook.
The Evergreen encourages readers to look afresh at their environment and their place in it, and this fourth volume, turning the tradition on its head, presents a bold, and all-female perspective. When male writers are brave, they are commended. When female writers are brave, they’re called ‘feisty’ and then forgotten. The writers and artists in Evergreen IV will not be so easily silenced.
Hear prose and poetry from a selection of the contributors: Janet Dick, Helena Fornells, Ellen Hair, Catherine Marshall, and Petra Reid, introduced by Lucy Ellmann.
