We are back with the wonderful Feminist Fiction Reading Group! A place to discover and enjoy a range of titles and themes lovingly hand picked by Mary. Woven together by feminist perspectives and critique, we will be discussing everything from unsung classics to contemporary literary fiction.

Our second book will be Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto. A beautifully enchanting set of novellas that delves into a wide array of themes, perfect if you feel like widening your usual reading horizons. Deeply affecting, joyously touching and a love letter to the one room in the house that holds so much memory and purpose. Enjoy!

Kitchen comprises Banana Yoshimoto's two classic tales about mothers, trans identity, bereavement, kitchens, love and tragedy. First published in 1987, it won two of Japan's most prestigious literary prizes, remained at the top of the bestseller lists for over a year and has gone on to be a much-loved international bestseller.

'Lucid, earnest and disarming.' New York Times
'A perfect jewel of a novel.' LENA DUNHAM

There’s no need to prepare or pressure to contribute at all - just bring your lovely self - but do feel free to mention a particular passage or character that you enjoyed during your reading.

Each entry place costs £5, fully redeemable as a voucher towards a copy of the book. We hope you’ll join us for some great conversation, and perhaps some themed baked goods!
