BBC Radio 4’s Bookclub, presented by James Naughtie, is coming to our bookshop on Thursday November 21 for a special, intimate event with the renowned Scottish author Alan Warner.

The book under discussion for this month’s recording will be Morvern Callar – which turns thirty years old next year.

The programme is based on audience questions so  if you want to come along please think of one to ask Alan on the night.

It is recommended that the audience read Morvern Callar prior to the evening. We will have plenty of copies available from the bookshop in advance.

The event will start at 6:15pm and is free to attend. To register your interest to book on for this event, please email bookclub@bbc.co.uk.

Alan Warner is the author of a number of award-winning novels including Morvern Callar (winner of the Somerset Maugham Award), These Demented Lands, and The Stars in the Bright Sky, which was longlisted for the 2010 Man Booker Prize. He was formerly Writer in Residence at Edinburgh University and is now a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Aberdeen University

It is off-season in a remote Highland sea port: twenty-one-year-old Morvern Callar, a low-paid employee in the local supermarket, wakes one morning to find her strange boyfriend has committed suicide and is dead on their kitchen floor. Morvern's laconic reaction is both intriguing and immoral. What she does next is even more appalling...
