For the June meeting of the Science-Fiction reading group we’re tackling another classic, Gene Wolfe’s The Fifth Head of Cerberus. The book is a collection of three novellas, all set on the dual colony worlds of Sainte Anne and Sainte Croix. These interconnected tales tell the story of a technologically advanced but mysterious civilisation with a turbulent past. They are stories about the subjectivity of memory and identity, bringing one of the most venerable of SF tropes, the meeting between human and alien, to the unique and thought provoking heights that make Wolfe’s fiction relevant, despite its age.
