Peter Crouch is known as one of the most beloved professional footballers of our time and has gained even more popularity in recent years through his books, his punditry and hugely successful co-hosting of That Peter Crouch Podcast. Over a 20-year career, he scored over 100 Premier League goals, has 42 England caps and holds the record for the most headed goals in Premier League history (as well as being beloved for his iconic celebratory ‘robot’ dance.)
With a truly illustrious footballing career behind him, he has played for Queens Park Rangers, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Norwich, Southampton, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Tottenham Hotspur, Stoke and, of course, England. After his retirement from playing football, Crouch has found these new successes as a bestselling author and award-winning podcast host - and, as always, remains a champion of grassroots football.
And now, we are delighted to announce that Peter joins us in Bath for an exclusive book event for his new title, How To Be An Ex-Footballer. Your ticket entry includes a signed first edition, which you can pick up at Christ Church on the evening.
Perfectly timed ahead of this year’s World Cup, How To Be An Ex-Footballer sees Crouchy go in search of what footballers do when age catches up with them or injury strikes, and they’re inevitably thrown into the real world having only developed one life skill – how to kick a ball.
Often recruited before they’ve worn long trousers, today’s footballers become superstars who earn huge amounts without ever learning much about the world beyond the training ground.
Encountering stories far more bizarre than anything you’ll find on the pitch, Peter speaks to those staying in the sport – the diehard veterans, coaches, managers, owners and of course the legions of pundits, to those moving on to pastures new. He talks to entrepreneurs, men of the cloth, eco warriors, artists, private detectives and budding actors, as well as those who’ve lost their way in addiction, crime and NFTs.
This book will make you think about ex footballers in a way you never have before - after all, when the whistle blows, it’s still all to play for.
The book event will be hosted by co-writer and fellow podcast host, Tom Fordyce. Tom was the BBC’s award-winning Chief Sports Writer and has ghost-written numerous bestselling sports books including Swim Bike Run, the autobiography of Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, The World of Cycling According to G with double Olympic gold medallist Geraint Thomas, and of course the bestselling books by Peter Crouch.
