Talk, demo & tastings!

A stunning celebration of British Indian flavour and culture from a talented food writer, columnist and trend consultant.

In this gorgeous debut, Mother Tongue, the award-winning Gurdeep Loyal showcases the hybrid third-culture cooking of second-generation migrants around the world today.

Born in Britain to Indian parents, Gurd felt constantly pulled by the clashing expectations of both cultures. With a strong passion for food and taste he was able to explore his culinary upbringing - a combination of ‘authentic’ home-cooked Punjabi food, with ‘inauthentic’ curry-house Tikka Masalas, the Western foodie cannon, and a wanderlust for travel in pursuit of flavour. What results is a flavour amplified intercultural cuisine, that is a delicious culinary self-expression of his second-generation experience of the world today.

Expect to taste a couple of knock-out recipes taken from the book this evening – such as mouth-watering Coconut Crab Crumpets, Kasundi Keema Lasagne Rolls, Punjabi Fishcakes, Sweet Chilli-Gunpowder Roasted Cauliflower, Sticky Mango-Lime Tomatoes and Chocolate-Orange Jalebis.

Mother Tongue is bursting with vibrantly spiced, colourfully flavour-forward recipes for home-cooks to explore and be inspired by.

‘Amazing, original, boundary breaking. Gurdeep is a genius with flavour and a terrific writer too’ - Diana Henry
